Vinitaly 2024: Alghero to host CMB Sparkling Wines Session
Press release – Verona, Tuesday 16 April
Concours Mondial de Bruxelles in Sardinia: Alghero will host the CMB Sparkling Wines Session, within the Alguer Wine Week event. Appointment from July 2 to 7 in the Sardinian Catalan city for a major event dedicated to wine culture, featuring exhibitions, tastings, performances, and a globally valued competition: a week ready to celebrate the love for wine and enhance Sardinia’s wine production.
Alghero and Sardinia showcase the world of wine on an international level: the city and the entire region are preparing to host a week dedicated to oenology and the promotion of wineries, with events, music, tastings, and an important global competition.
From July 2 to 7, 2024, Sardinia will host the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles; the chosen location is the city of Alghero: the Sardinian Catalan city has been selected as the setting for the session dedicated to sparkling wines – sparkling and effervescent – of the authoritative global wine competition. The event will be part of the first edition of the Alguer Wine Week, an event designed to celebrate Sardinian wine and oenological culture through a series of events, tastings, and performances, ready to animate the heart of the city.
The event was presented in Verona, during Vinitaly 2024, at a crowded press conference attended by Mario Peretto – President of the Alghero DOC Consortium, Karin Meriot – Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, Francesco Carboni – President of Promo Camera Sassari, Mario Conoci – Mayor of Alghero, Antonio Furesi – President of AIS Sardegna, Giovanni Pinna – Vice President of the Alghero DOC Consortium.
“We chose a prestigious stage like Vinitaly because we believe that the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles in its Sardinian edition and the Alguer Wine Week are two events of great importance nationally and internationally,” emphasized the organizers. “This event is an extraordinary opportunity for the entire Sardinian wine industry and, in general, for our entire island.”
“Sardinia aims to assert itself more and more as an island of wine on a national and international scale: hosting a world-class event like the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles is an extraordinary opportunity for the entire Sardinian sector,” emphasized Mario Peretto, President of the Alghero DOC Consortium.
“Our region has been selected to host the session dedicated to sparkling wines of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles. The event will take place in the first week of July and will involve multiple committees composed of journalists, buyers, experts, and influencers, who will explore and share their experience on the fascinating island, immersing themselves in its landscapes and renowned wine productions.
At the same time, we will launch the first edition of the Alguer Wine Week, an initiative that will offer a series of events and tastings dedicated to wine, allowing enthusiasts to fully immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the competition. The Concours Mondial will thus be hosted within the Alguer Wine Week, which, with other events and appointments, will allow all interested parties to immerse themselves in a week dedicated to wine.
As mentioned earlier, this event represents an excellent opportunity to promote the local wine sector, transforming Alghero and Sardinia into a national reference point for wine throughout the week. An experience made possible by the teamwork of institutions, associations, and operators from all over the territory, united to ensure that our island can seize this great opportunity.”
The Concours Mondial de Bruxelles and Alguer Wine Week event is promoted and organized by the Consortium for the Protection of Alghero DOC Wines with the financial support of the Tourism Department of the Sardinia Region and the fundamental contribution of institutional partners such as the Municipality of Alghero, Fondazione Alghero, Chamber of Commerce of Sassari, Promocamera, Laore, AIS Sardegna, Consortium Riviera del Corallo, and CCN Al Centro Storico, to which other entities may be added.
“The Alghero DOC Consortium is the entity that has been working for years for this result, but the goal is to make it a project for everyone: the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles and the Alguer Wine Week are initiatives dedicated to the entire Sardinia, which can succeed only if the various island realities move together, from institutions and trade associations to consortia and individual producers. It’s a great opportunity for all of us to seize together.”
About CMB
Concours Mondial de Bruxelles is an international competition where more than 10,000 wines are presented by producers to be tasted and evaluated by a panel of experts. Our tasting experts sample the wines in competition. Their only motto: to distinguish the wines whose quality is impeccable, without prejudice related to the label or the prestige of the appellation. The competition is one of the most important international events of its kind.
